Emergency call-outs

Emergency electrical services across Cardiff

Every one of these is a 24/7 call-out. If it sparks, smells, trips or cuts out, a qualified electrician is on the way.

Tripping fuse box & RCD faults

The most common emergency call we get. If your trip switch keeps flicking off or will not reset, there is a fault somewhere on the circuit. We test each circuit to find it, repair the cause and get your power back on. If the consumer unit itself has failed, we can fit a modern replacement with full RCD protection.

In an electrical emergency

Stay safe until we arrive.

What to do in the first few minutes, while a qualified electrician is on the way to you.

Step 1

Switch off at the main switch

If it is safe to reach and your hands are dry, turn off the main switch on your consumer unit. That cuts power to the whole property.

Step 2

Do not touch anything damaged

Keep away from sockets, switches or cables that are sparking, hot, buzzing or wet. Never try to fix them yourself.

Step 3

Unplug what you safely can

If one circuit keeps tripping, unplug the appliances on it. A faulty kettle, heater or washing machine is often the cause.

Step 4

Check if neighbours have power

If the whole street is dark it is a network fault. Call 105 to report it to the network operator. If it is only you, call us.

Step 5

Smoke or fire: get out, call 999

If you see smoke or flames, leave the property straight away and call 999. Do not go back in. Call us once everyone is safe.

Step 6

Call us and keep everyone clear

Tell us what you can see, hear or smell. We will talk you through staying safe and give you an honest arrival time.

FAQ

Emergency electrical questions, answered

Still unsure? Call us and a qualified electrician will talk it through.

What counts as an electrical emergency?

Power cuts affecting only your property, sparking or scorched sockets, electric shocks, burning smells, buzzing from the fuse board and circuits that trip and will not reset. If something feels sudden or unsafe, treat it as an emergency and call a qualified electrician straight away.

How quickly can you get to me?

Our electricians are based around Cardiff and are ready to set off as soon as you call. We will give you an honest arrival time on the phone, and talk you through keeping everyone safe until we get there.

What should I do if my power goes off?

First check whether neighbours have power too. If the whole street is out, it is a network fault for the distribution operator. If it is just you, look at your fuse box for a tripped switch and try resetting it once. If it trips again, or will not reset, unplug appliances and call us.

Why are regular electrical inspections important?

An inspection (EICR) finds deteriorating wiring, overloaded circuits and missing protection before they cause a fire or shock. Landlords in Wales need a valid report for rented homes, and for owners it is the best way to avoid costly emergency repairs.

How can I prevent electrical emergencies?

Avoid overloading sockets and extension leads, use surge protection for sensitive equipment, and never ignore warning signs like flickering lights or warm sockets. Regular testing by a qualified electrician catches most problems early.

Do you charge more at night or weekends?

Out-of-hours rates apply, but you will always be told the call-out price before we set off, so there are no surprises on the invoice.
